Editorial Policy

The rules every page on Grind & Cure is written to — and the ones we hold ourselves to when we get something wrong.

Independence

No brand, retailer or manufacturer pays for inclusion, placement or a better score, and we don't accept free or loaned products. The site earns commissions on qualifying Amazon purchases (see our affiliate disclosure), and that commission is identical whether we rank a product first or fifth — so it can't buy a higher rank. When the cheaper option is the honest answer for your season, we say so.

Where our numbers come from

  • Product specifications — the manufacturer's product page or owner's manual first; the maker-supplied copy on the Amazon listing second, always labeled as such when cited.
  • Food safety — jerky temperatures, curing salt, internal temperatures and storage times come only from the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service or state university extension publications, linked on the page.
  • Yield and volume — the Ohio Division of Wildlife's venison yield study for deer; other agency or extension data only when fetched and cited. Freezer density is always shown as a range.
  • Processor fees — named processors' published price lists, dated, shown as examples — never an invented national average.
  • Prices — live from Amazon's product data service, dated, and hidden automatically after 48 hours without a refresh.

We don't restate other review sites' claims as fact, cite forum posts for safety guidance, or display retailer star ratings. Every page ends with its sources.

What we do and don't claim

Our rankings are editorial judgments built from published documents and a published rubric (How We Pick). We don't claim hands-on testing we haven't done, and you won't find invented test results on this site. If the owner adds first-hand notes from their own processing sessions in the future, they will be clearly labeled as such.

Use of AI tools

We use AI writing tools to help research and draft pages. Every page is reviewed against its sources before it is published, every figure has to trace to a cited document, and the same no-fabrication rules apply whether a sentence was typed or drafted. Responsibility for what's published sits with the publisher, not a tool.

Update cadence

  • Prices: refreshed daily; stale prices hide themselves after 48 hours.
  • Dead listings and discontinued models: checked weekly and fixed within seven days.
  • Roundups and setup pages: reviewed quarterly, with a full refresh each August and September before the fall seasons.
  • Food-safety guides: re-checked against their sources at least every six months.

A page's “Updated” date changes only when its content changes — not when a price refreshes.

Corrections

If we got something wrong — a spec, a figure, a broken link — email mike@blackironathletics.com or use the contact form and choose “Correction.” We aim to review reports within 48 hours. Substantive corrections are noted on the page with the date; typo fixes are made quietly.
